Anderson Lake Closed Due To Toxin

Port Townsend – High levels of the potent nerve toxin anatoxin-a were detected in a water sample taken from Anderson Lake on Monday, May 22.  The toxin level is 1.38 micrograms per liter, which is above the Washington State recreational criteria of 1 microgram per liter.

Celebration of Annual World Breastfeeding Week on August 2nd

Port Townsend – Jefferson County Public Health is celebrating 25 years of World Breastfeeding Week, August 1-7. There will be a picnic at Chetzamoka Park, in Port Townsend at 11:00-12:30 pm on Wednesday August 2rd. Current and former breastfeeding moms, babies, families, and friends are invited to picnic in the park. Bring a picnic lunch to celebrate and support those who breastfeed and the nutritious benefits of doing so.

Port Townsend Bay, Kilisut Harbor and Mystery Bay Shellfish Closed Due to Marine Biotoxins

Port Townsend – Shellfish samples from Port Townsend Bay and Kilisut Harbor have been found to contain elevated levels of marine biotoxins that cause Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP). As a result, the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) has closed Port Townsend Bay, Kilisut Harbor, and Mystery Bay for recreational shellfish harvest. Danger signs are being posted at public access points warning people not to consume shellfish from this area.

Discovery Bay Closed to all Species of Shellfish

Jefferson County Board of Health Honors 2017 Public Health Heroes

In celebration of National Public Health Month 2017, and in recognition of their efforts to promote community health, Jefferson County Public Health is proud to announce its 2017 Public Health Heroes. 

Based on this 2017 theme, “Healthiest Nation 2030: Create the Healthiest Nation in one Generation.” the Board of Health honored seven recipients at its April Board of Health meeting.

Port Townsend, WA –  The public is invited Monday, April 10, 5:30 – 8:00, at the Jefferson County Library, to a screening and discussion, led by film director Amy Benson, of the film Drawing the Tiger, which is a featured film in the PTFF Women and Film weekend.
